Ties That Bind

October 30, 2015 By Tammy Leave a Comment

Loving Ties That Bind, a social enterprise in Quezon City, brought to you by Sining Cruz.

Before having babies, I used to wear big earrings, bracelets (although hardly a watch) and necklaces. I liked accessories and was lucky that I had a mother who did too. I would borrow giant hoop earrings, long strands of pearls, chunky stone bracelets, and bags, shoes, and scarves too!

Once we started having babies though, I stopped wearing most of my accessories. I removed my engagement ring (the stone was too sharp). I removed my necklace (they would put the pendant in their mouths). I stuck to small earrings (they would pull them off if they were too big).

Even bracelets had to go. They would hurt me or the baby when I would carry them, feed them or put them to sleep. The wood, metal, beads (whatever it was made of) would push into our skin.

All this will change now though. Thanks to Sining Cruz, and her supermom, Coco Castro Cruz, and her fabulous Tita Felice Caringal, we now have Ties That Bind!

These colorful, multifunctional bands come in sets of three. You can use them as hairties or bracelets. They are soft and elastic (and really pretty).

The different sets have beautiful names that somewhat describe the colors, combinations and designs: Amihan, Vinta, Sining, Kilig (and more).

I think my favorite has got to be “Ako ay Malaya” – a dark blue band, a yellow band, and a red band with gold triangles.

Me and my “ako ay malaya” bands, enjoying some kapeng ginto at KKK Coffee along Maginhawa.
