Gurit Kamot

1655520_849239765102850_915909272_oGurit Kamot is an art initiative, conceptualized by the Salingoy Art Group (SAG) for Gawad Kalinga (GK). Gurit Kamot focuses on the capacity of our hands to draw, scribble, create and express. It is a two-day module for teaching the arts for people interested in learning how to draw and paint.

It is a two-day art and health workshop for the kids of Gawad Kalinga Camarines Sur.

There are 32 GK communities in the Camarines Sur and we are sure that there are kids (and parents too!) that are passionate about the arts or have talent waiting to be unleashed. The volunteer artists of Salingoy and the volunteer ground workers of GK feel that this is another way of empowering the communities and a creative medium for the residents, especially the children and the youth, to express themselves.

Gurit Kamot conducted the pioneer module on 7-8 December 2013 at GK Balatas. On 16-21 December 2013 an exhibit was put up at SM CITY, NAGA for the public to view and appreciate the work of the participants.

Post cards of the masterpieces of the participants have been printed by Willprint and will be available for sale to help sustain this project.

The Salingoy Art Group is composed of some of the most talented artists in Bicol. Their passion for the arts extends beyond the canvass. The word “Salingoy”, when translated into English, is “to look back”. With this initiative with GK, we see how they not only look back, but give back as well. The passion they have to help the poor is contagious and we hope this will inspire more Bicolanos to be involved with Gawad Kalinga. GK works to build communities to end poverty. From building homes, to encouraging productivity through farming and livelihood, to community health and child youth development programs, GK aims for holistic development around the country.
